I just finished my root canal surgery last week, so I want to share some of my experiences with you guys. I hope the following information will help you and give you a basic concept about the root canal procedures.
The root canal procedures usually take couple times and last for about 1 month depends on your situation. For me, I only took 2 times to remove my dental pulp. The doctor told me that most people need to do it three times, but I only need two times because I was being a good girl during the procedure. So lucky...
I can say that I am a person who scared of pain very very much. I even scared of blood drawing for the normal check up. So, I never donate my blood. I really want to, but I can't. I hate going to the hospital or dentist. However, I had no choice this time because my tooth hurt a lot for about 1 week before I called the dentist and got the appointment.
Ok, i will skip all the unnecessary things. Let's talk about the procedure.
When I got into the room, the dentist told me to sit and lay down on the scary chair. Then I saw the assistant gave the dentist a metal needle. I was sooooooooo scare. The doctor tried to give me the shots in order to numb the tooth with anesthesia. It's embarrassed to tell you guys that the dentist actually tried three times which I stop him the first two times. I turned my head away from the shot because I was feeling very scared. The dentist told me that he gave me 3 shots. OMG... All I could feel was 1 shot <-- quite painful. The dentist did a pretty good job.
I closed my eyes on the third try which was succeed. Then the dentist told me to wait outside for about 15 minutes until the tooth has become numb. I went back to the same room and laid down on the same chair again. I closed my eyes during the whole procedure. All I remember is that the dentist gave me something to bite on in order to keep my mouth open. Then he put a plastic (latex sheet <--- I searched it online) sheet on in and on my mouth. During the procedure, all I could hear was the scary drill sound and the burning smell. It took about 45-60 minutes. I don't really remember how long was the procedure because I was feeling so terrify. It wasn't hurt for the whole procedure. The only time that hurt for about 5 seconds was toward the end of the procedure. I could feel that the dentist was using some kind of needle to clean my dental pulp. Luckily, it wasn't bad at all.
At the end, the dentist told me to go back after 1 week. He said I only need to do it one more time, then I will finish my root canal procedure (not included putting the crown).
